Your Host, Kim Kerton
She’s Host & Producer of Unemployed & Afraid and Founder of boutique branded-podcast consultancy firm Good Side of the Bed.
Before all that, Kim was a baby entrepreneur, creating and closing two businesses before the age of 21, who then spent over a decade in the commercial radio/audio business in branded content, sales and leadership. She walked away from her career to create something else, her own thing, got unemployed and afraid and here we are… a self-described podcast nerd, passionate small-business builder & advocate, a writer, speaker, occasional ceramicist, plant-based foodie and pug mum with a hell of a story to get here.
“After leaving my corporate career to explore creating my own business (which in the beginning included becoming a ceramicist, a plant-based content creator and private yoga teacher) I would listen to business podcasts for hours on end.
I was looking for community, but most conversations were heavily “win” driven - tales of success from guests and hosts who had "made it" that often skimmed over the detail and tough stuff - missing the insights and personal experience we need to relate and feel truly inspired to keep going.
Frustrated, and never one to ignore an important cultural insight, I assumed I wasn’t the only one who needed more supportive conversations about the experience of creating a business.
So I made the thing I needed...
Unemployed & Afraid is stories from the people in the thick of building a business, at all levels. It’s about the challenges of creating a business, the personal and professional undoings you experience along the way, and why it's so very worth it.”
