Upholsterer and Creator of Culture Cush, Reioni Douglas

“Starting a business became the self-development journey that I didn't ask for”

The thing about creating and running a business that just gets me in the gut every time is how damn personal the whole experience is – I mean personal in the sense that you’re not just creating work and sharing products or ideas, you’re creating a whole new version of yourself along the way.

After recording this chat I’m about to share with you I had so many personal and professional light bulbs go off that have been invaluable - my guest is Reioni Douglas, Upholsterer and creator of Culture Cush – and the perfectly honest way she shares her story might just set some light bulbs off for you too.

We talk about:

  • Starting a business before you’re ready.

  • Identifying where you can do things differently to stand out in your field.

  • The realities of doing what you have to in order to “fake it till you make it”.

  • Managing through the personal challenges a growing business can bring.

  • The high level of expectation and identity attachment we can develop to our business, particularly in creative fields.

  • Learning where to draw the line between on the clock and off when working on your business.

  • And simply asking for what you want.
